Stonehenge - new science, more speculation - the story continues
Recent scientific advances in archaeology are having a considerable impact on our understanding of who built Stonehenge. How it was built and, perhaps more importantly, why are less easy to answer. This talk will examine the new evidence from ancient DNA and isotopic analysis as well as the practicalities of moving stones and large timbers.
Julian is an archaeologist who has been involved with research on Stonehenge and its landscape for over 35 years. The author of the current Stonehenge guide book (and the ‘Pop Up Stonehenge’) he may be familiar as the presenter of BBC’s ‘Meet the Ancestors’. His exhibition ‘Wish you were here’ is was on display at the Stonehenge Visitor Centre and he is planning Britain’s biggest stone moving experiment in the near future. |

Paul Devereux is managing editor of the academic publication, Time & Mind – The Journal of Archaeology, Consciousness and Culture (Taylor & Francis Online), a research affiliate with the Royal College of Art, a Senior Research Fellow of the International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL), Princeton, and the Director of the Dragon Project Trust. He was editor of The ley Hunter journal for 20 years, and has written a great many articles for general publications and a string of peer-reviewed papers. He is author of twenty-six books, dealing variously with the anthropologies of consciousness, archaeoacoustics and other aspects of ancient sites, landscapes and lifeways, as well as anomalous geophysical phenomena. The Rollright Mysteries – A New View of Stone Circles
Maria explores the power generated by a stone circle. Focusing on complexes that have retained their circular shape, she examines the hidden properties of standing stones, the energies and sound frequencies they emit – and how certain earth energies change the air quality. Ralph Ellis has been researching biblical history for more than thirty years, to a degree and depth that very few other researchers manage to reach. Lecture 1: Monuments, Myths and Alignments
Anthony Murphy has been studying the megalithic monuments of eastern Ireland and their associated mythology and astronomy for 20 years. He brings us up to date with all his most recent research.
Anthony Murphy is a journalist, photographer, author and astronomer who lives in Drogheda, at the gateway to Ireland’s historic Boyne Valley. He has spent almost 20 years researching, photographing and writing about the ancient megalithic monuments of the Boyne Valley and their associated mythology, cosmology and alignments. He is the author of five books, including the acclaimed Island of the Setting Sun: In Search of Ireland’s Ancient Astronomers (with Richard Moore), Newgrange: Monument to Immortality and Mythical Ireland: New Light on the Ancient Past. He is a member of the Independent Tour Guides Association in Ireland. In July 2018 Anthony shot to international fame when he discovered a previously unknown late Neolithic henge or ceremonial enclosure 750m from the world famous megalithic monument of Newgrange. www.mythicalireland.com |

JURGEN KRONIG
A Photographic Journey through Megalithic Europe
Jürgen Krönig, OBE, is the president emeritus of the Foreign Press Association U.K. and the German correspondent for Die Zeit weekly. He is the author of The Secret Face of Nature, which furthers the pioneering work of his friend John Michell in the little-known field of simulacra. Born in Germany, Jürgen Krönig has a degree in Political Science and History. In 1984 he moved to England and now lives in Wiltshire. An award-winning journalist, author, broadcaster and photographer, In 2005, Jürgen was awarded an OBE for his significant contributions to British-German relations. He first met John Michell in the 1980s. From their many shared interests, Jürgen took on the study of simulacra, which John had opened up in his 1979 book Simulacra, published in the U.S. as Natural Likeness. This is the phenomenon of things looking like other things in a perhaps coincidental but apparently meaningful way: faces in rocks and clouds, spots like eyes on butterfly wings, portraits of people and known symbols that appear spontaneously in nature. A dedicated photographer, Jürgen, together with his wife Katharina, has travelled worldwide to find striking images of simulacra and to photograh ancient megalithic sites. Number, Reality and the Prehistoric Origins of Measure.
The John Michell Memorial Lecture, presented by Christine Rhone
The field of megalithic science, like the ancient sites themselves, stands at a crossroads between the intuitive and the scientific. The study of an-cient metrology re-discovered by John Neal and John Michell reveals previ-ously unrecognised insights into the intentions of stone age architects to hold these two worlds in balance through the practice of harmonic measure. From the earliest stone circles to the pyramids and temples of antiquity, this talk will explore how hidden in plain sight in the traditional measures of every nation are the keys to startling insights of prehistoric consciousness into the nature of number and reality.
Adam Tetlow is an artist, writer and teacher exploring the intersection be-tween art, mathematics and ancient thought. He studied with Keith Critchlow at the PSTA, and has spent the last five years working closely with John Neal. Polygonal and Cyclopean Walls of Europe and South America
Hugh has been investigating the huge megalithic walls in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and also in Italy, Greece and Spain and found there are global connections to this unusual polygonal style that are often attributed to giants or ancient gods.
Hugh Newman is an author, conference organiser, world explorer, tour host, and Megalithomaniac. As well as organising the Megalithomania conferences, he organises the Origins Conference in London with Andrew Collins every November. He has spoken at events in the UK, Malta, France, Peru, Egypt, Bosnia and North America. He has appeared on BBC TV, Sky Channel 200, Bosnian TV and the History Channel in the last five seasons of 'Ancient Aliens', and recently in 'Search for the Lost Giants'. Avebury Soundscapes - A 30 Minute Audio Journey
After a long career as a film composer Steve became an archaeological researcher and author. His first book, Exploring Avebury The Essential Guide, is hugely successful and has just gone to its fifth printing. He decided to follow it up not with another book, but with an album of music, as there are aspects of Avebury that he could express musically rather than with words. Avebury Soundscapes has ten tracks, each representing a different part of the Avebury complex. As well as the atmosphere of the monuments, there are other unusual features that naturally lend themselves to musical expression. The geometry of the Sanctuary, for instance, reveals itself through rhythmic sequences. this is explained by playing brief musical examples from a selection of tracks along with an animated PowerPoint slideshow. The album also contains 3-D binaural sounds recorded in and around Avebury; with headphones these appear to come from above and all around the listener. Steve will bring several sets of headphones for megalithomaniacs to try out so that those who are interested can experience the 3-D sound effects for themselves. Steve has presented this once at the Wiltshire Archaeology conference, but only had 20 minutes. This time he has 30 mins!
